An editorial of US daily New York Times sparked a fervent response from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an during an Istanbul event he attended on Monday.
"Who are you? Can you write such a thing [writing a critical editorial] against the US administration?" H?rriyet Daily News quotes him as saying during the discussion hosted by the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research, a Washington think-tank.
“It [the NY Times] is like giving orders to the US and other forces. You are a newspaper and you will know your place," another quotation, posted by Today's Zaman, reads.
President Erdo?an also accused the paper of "interfering in Turkey by running this story" and going "out of the boundaries" of its freedom.
Published on May 22, two weeks before the June 7 general election in Turkey, the editorial argues that Erdo?an is trying to intimidate media outlets to secure a win for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
