EU Adopts Tobacco Ad Ban

The European Union has passed a tough new law extending a ban on tobacco advertising to key media such as radio, print and the internet. The restrictions - which will take effect from 2005 - were approved by health ministers from 13 of the 15 EU nations, enough to push through the bill. "We have taken a huge step forward towards a strong common policy protecting the public from the promotion of tobacco products," said Danish Health Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, who chaired the meeting.
