The father of Ani Borisova, who went missing in Greek capital Athens on April 21, has confessed he murdered his own daughter, police say.
Both parents have been detained and charges have been pressed against them, according to daily Kathimerini's English-language version, which cites a statement by officials.
The 27-year-old father is now charged with murder, and Ani's mother allegedly "abandoned and exposed her child to risk," prosecutors say.
In April, the mother informed that Anna had gone missing after she had left her in the hands of a friend in Athens in order to travel to Bulgaria. In her words, the child disappeared on a square in downtown Athens.
However, the woman was then unable to recall the name of her friend.
The father's confessions date Monday, when investigators allegedly obtained "key evidence" from a witness linked to him who said the defendant a, "drug addict", had "owned up" to him that he murdered his daughter.
Blood samples were found in the father's home that later were confirmed to have been from Anna's body.
The murder is most likely to have taken place on April 8-9, according to Greek news outlet Prototheme.gr quoted by Bulgarian daily Dnevnik.
Allegedly, Ani's body was cut into pieces which were then disposed of in separate trash bins. Police say the father confirmed that he tried to cover up all traces of his actions.
