Visitors staying at a hotel in Bulgaria will be able to connect to its reception desk by dialling '9' via the internal telephone exchange, the Tourism Ministry announced on Monday.

The introduction of a single contact number aims to ensure prompt reaction in case of emergency and make it easier for guests to liaise with hotel officials, the ministry said in a statement following a meeting of Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova with industry representatives.

The single contact number will be made mandatory for all hotel owners in Bulgaria under amendments to the national regulation for evaluation of the quality of services offered by hotels and restaurants in the country.

The amendments are expected to go into force within a month, Angelkova said.
