As the death toll reached 6621 people, the authorities in Nepal ruled out the possibility of finding any more survivors from the disastrous earthquake, which hit the country on April 25.

According to the latest official information, the number of people, who were injured in the earthquake, stood at 14 021.

Rescue and relief efforts in several hill areas continue as thousands of people remain unaccounted for, the BBC reports.

The authorities in Nepal are expecting the number of victims to rise, while around a hundred people were reported dead in neighbouring India, Tibet and Bangladesh.

The EU envoy to Nepal,Rensje Teerink, announced on Friday that 1000 EU citizens were still unaccounted for.

Nepal has repeatedly called for greater international assistance and humanitarian aid as the authorities admitted that they have not been prepared well for the natural disaster.

Landslides, poor weather conditions, aftershocks and lack of equipment are hampering the efforts of delivering aid to isolated areas.

At present the authorities are funding the rescue and relief operations with their own resources as international aid is still expected to reach government accounts.

UNICEF warned that children in the worst-affected areas were left homeless, shocked and without access to basic care.
