Nepal Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 758
At least 758 have been confirmed dead in a devastating earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale in Nepal.
The quake struck about 80 kilometers northwest of Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, shortly before noon local time, according to the US Geological Survey. It was followed by strong aftershocks.
The earthquake triggered a huge avalanche on Mount Everest, killing 8-10 climbers, according to different international news agencies.
The quake caused extensive damage to buildings, including a number of historic sites such as the Dharahara tower, an iconic 19th century monument.
Tremors were also felt in India and Bangladesh.
