Bulgaria is the leader in Europe in terms of usage of doping-containing food supplements.
The statement was made by the Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev in an interview for NOVA TV station, quoting data from the European Fitness Association.
He further announced that the ministry will be compiling a national strategy on doping counteraction. In his opinion, this is especially necessary for professional athletes.
''We would like, however, to also pay attention to amateur centers and fitness halls.,'' added Kralev. ''According to the official data, Bulgaria is on the first spot in terms of consumption of substances containing forbidden stimulants.''
In his words, there currently are many young people that would like to achieve visible results for their bodies in merely two or three months.
''Unfortunately, many of them resort to the advice they receive by fitness instructors, who are reccommending them to taka anabols,'' explained the Sports Minister.
He added that one of the main goals of the anti-doping strategy will be the creation of a national registry of fitness halls and sports centers.
