Romania Edges Closer to Visa-Free Travel to the US
Romania is making strides toward joining the Visa Waiver Program, a significant milestone that would enable its citizens to travel to the United States visa-free for up to 90 days
Hillary Clinton has announced that she will run for president of the United States again.
Launching her second campaign for Democratic candidate for president, the former secretary of state on Sunday announced her candidacy on social media in a campaign video featuring everyday life of US voters such as starting a business or having a baby.
Hillary Clinton is the first major Democrat to formally declare her candidacy. This time she faces no prospective rival looking as strong as the one who beat her in 2008, then-Senator Barack Obama.
Compared with other likely Democratic contenders, Hillary Clinton enters the race as the heavy favourite for the party’s nomination, polling more than 50 points ahead of former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley, former Virginia senator Jim Webb and the Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, according to the FT.
“But an inescapable part of her candidacy is a set of liabilities from her quarter century in politics and government,” the Wall Street Journal commented in its coverage of the news.
These include the terrorist attack at a US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state, her practice of using a private email account to conduct government business as well as reports that the family’s charity – the Clinton Foundation – accepted large donations from foreign governments.
But Hillary Clinton is a seasoned veteran who went through two presidential campaigns with her husband Bill Clinton in the 1990s and her own bid in 2008.
"Little by little, Mrs. Clinton is taking steps that suggest she has learned from the mistakes, both tactical and personal, of her failed candidacy," according to Amy Chozick of the New York Times.
