Over 100,000 people will be travelling abroad over the Easter holidays. Approximately the same number of people will be going to various places across the country.

The statement was made by the Chair of the Association of the Bulgarian Tourist Agencies, Bayko Baykov in an interview for Focus News.

Meanwhile, between 10,000 and 15,000 foreign tourists are expected to enter Bulgaria over the holidays.

Traditionally, visits in the country during the Easter long weekend are by people coming from the neighboring countries - first in terms of numbers is Greece, then Macedonia, and Serbia and Romania follow, in the words of Baykov.

This is a traditional phenomenon. There is nothing surprising having in mind that the Eastern Orthodox holiday does not coincide with the Catholic celebration. The long weekend for the largest part of Western Europe started on April 5, so we can't really expect a tourist influx from those countries right now.

The information was revealed merely a week after the Bulgarian PM Boiko Borisov appealed to local tourists to stay in the country over the holidays in order to support local businesses.
