The state-owned natural gas transmission operator Bulgartransgaz was awarded EU funding for pre-investment feasibility study of the planned interconnector between Bulgaria and Turkey.
The agreement for the funding of the pre-investment feasibility study of the projected gas interconnector between Bulgaria and Turkey was signed on April 3, BGNES news agency reports.
The interconnector was selected to receive financial support by the European Commission under the Connecting Europe Facility Mechanism – CEF-Energy.
The total value of the feasibility study is estimated to be EUR 380 000, with the half of the cost to be covered by the Connecting Europe Facility.
The interconnector is a project for linking the gas transmission networks of Bulgartransgaz and the Turkish BOTAS.
It is expected that the interconnector will provide opportunities for diversification of the sources of natural gas, the supplying partners and transition routes.
The implementation of the project foresees to raise the security of supply in the region and increase competition.
The interconnector is one of the projects, which will contribute to the implementation of the priority Southern Gas Corridor.
The Southern Gas Corridor foresees the transportation of natural gas from the Caspian basin, Central Asia, and the Middle East to the EU as means of diversifying gas supplies.
