Home Sweet Home: The Reality of Housing in Bulgaria Revealed
New data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) sheds light on the housing landscape in Bulgaria, painting a picture of the majority of Bulgarians residing in older homes.
According to representatives of the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association, tourism in Bulgaria still maintains the best price to quality ratio.
The statement was made following the appeal Bulgarian PM Boiko Borisov made in Parliament, asking citizens to stay in Bulgaria over the upcoming Easter holidays, as reported by the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
''I am turning to the tourist branch to respond to our appeal and to provide prices, service and quality that will be the reasons for Bulgarians not to travel 500 kilometers more, and instead to stay here,'' Borisov added.
In response, the Deputy Chair of the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association, Elena Ivanova noted that after the information released in media for a tough summer season, the prices for early-bird sign-up for holidays have decreased by 30%.
''We on the other hand expect for the government to take a more active stance on the issue and will insist on that. There need to be vouchers distributed from employers to employees in companies, and subsequantly the monetary value of the vouchers should then be subtracted from the taxes owed by employers.''
The Chair of the Bulgarian Association for Alternative Tourism Lyubomir Popyordanov, on the other hand, stated that tourism representatives need to regain the trust of the Bulgarian consumers. He further noted that local businesses need to raise more awareness on the services they can provide and on the interesting events available.
''The government needs to create a very well-crafted and positive campaign on travelling in Bulgaria. There should be investments in big cities in terms of billboards, and Bulgarian ministers and MPs should themselves give a positive example by spending their holidays in Bulgaria.''
