The amended project for the strategy on prevention and countering corruption and organized crime s now completed.

The Ministry of Finance needs to outline the financial framework for the project, stated Deputy PM Meglena Kuneva in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio.

She noted that in terms of resources and administration, the project will be even cheaper than it currently is. At the moment the Center for Prevention and Countering Corruption and Organized Crime to the Council of Ministers (BORKOR) has received lots of funding but produced minimal results.

''All information technologies will be improved over time and that can lead to a smaller portion of human influence and more objective results,'' Kuneva noted.

The Deputy PM stated that she will be looking for more personal responsibility and that issue will be resolved through a law amendment to be implemented alongside the strategy itself.

''There will be big changes in the law created by the Commission on conflict of interest,'' Kuneva added. ''The Audit Office is also extremely important as all land-ownership declarations and income statements are submitted there.''

Asked whether there should be a specialized office created that would deal with corruption at the Prosecutor's Office, she replied that such an action ''would not heal the system''. As of now, a specialized officer is assigned from the Interior Ministry for a term of six years and that person supervises the processes. In the words of Kuneva, there will be no new procedural proposals.

Political will for the independence of the magistrates was noted as the primary condition for the creation of a new system.
