Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree Friday thus reducing government salaries by 10%.
According to the document, salaries of the PM, Prosecutor General, Head of the Investigative Committee, MPs and Kremlin officials will all be slashed, ITAR Tass reported.
The term of the austerity policies in Russia will start in March and will continue throughout the end of the year.
Government staff, and members of the Chamber of Accounts will also suffer the decrease.
Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the decision is temporary and is caused by the current economic situation.
''If the situation doesn't improve considerably, the period will be extended,'' he added. ''In case there is an improvement, there won't be any reason for an extension to the policy after the end of the year.''
According to income tax declarations filed in 2013, Putin has received RUB 3,672,208 in salaries and PM Dmitry Medvedev - RUB 4, 259, 525.
