The body of a 39-year-old man has been found near a gas station near Kazichene, on the outskirts of Sofia.
Interior Ministry officials are refusing to give details, but it is understood that the man's name is Boris Borisov, according to the Bulgarian National Television.
Boris Borisov, aka "Bobi Belyata", is well known to police after a 2002 trial in which he was accused of setting a car servicing unit on fire. He was acquitted.
Later he was also thought to be among the main accomplices of Zlatomiv Ivanov, aka "Zlatko Baretata", considered by many to have been a key underworld boss for most of the 2000s.
Ivanov has been in prison since 2009.
In cases against Zlatko Baretata, prosecutors suggested Bobi Belyata had been in his closest circle.
