A man and a woman aged 77 and 74 respectively were severely injured Wednesday after explosion of a gas cylinder in their home in the Sofia Geo Milev neighborhood.

After the explosion wave hit, the window pane at the balcony of the appartment fell down and smashed right in front of the building. There have been no injured pedestrians.

The people whose gas bottle exploded, however, suffered severe burns - 45% of injuries for the woman and 25% for the man.

After an inspection by the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Surveillance (SAMTS) was executed Thursday, the conclusion was drawn that the incident was caused by inproper exploitation.

''A loose link between the rubber hose and the gas cylinder has led to a gas leak,'' the inspectors added. ''Meanwhile, the hot plate of the stove was on, so when the gas reached it, close to 5 kilograms of propane-butane were set on fire.''
