The management of Pirin National Park prohibited the flights of all aircraft for the duration of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, which will be held in the Bulgarian ski resort Bansko.

The order was issued by the director of the park Rosen Banenski and apart from the prohibition of drones, the list also includes the operation of hand gliders, paragliders and helicopters, daily Dnevnik reports.

The only exceptions will be made to rescue operations as well as maintenance and restoration works carried out in the park.

These measures aim to ensure the safety of the skiers, audience and tourists for the duration of the World Cup, which takes place between Friday and Sunday.

The order is issued in compliance with the Protected Areas Act and the management plan of Pirin National Park.

Copies of the order have been provided to the district department of the police, the municipality, the mountain rescue service, the fire safety department, the Bulgarian Ski Federation and Heli Air.
