A declaration was adopted by Bosnia and Herzegovina's parliament on Monday, stating the political willingness of he country representatives to comply with EU criteria for member accession.

A number of reforms were to be implemented in the country in order for the process to be facilitated, as reported by the Balkan Insider.

“We must not play around with this declaration on the European path like we used to do before, but Brussels also must not endanger this atmosphere with its bureaucratic approach,” said Mladen Ivanic, chairman of the country's presidency.

One of the main goals of the declaration is said to be the achievement of a EU candidate status in 2017.

The alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) - a Bosnian Serb Party, opposed the declaration by walking out of the review session. The party representatives have been boycotting the actions of parliament over the past one month.

It is also expected that after the document is reviewed by the EU, the Stabilisation and Association Process will be officially launched.

The mechanism is used by the EU to encourage aspiring member states by providing tarif-free access to certain markets, as well as other financial and technical assistance.
