EU-aspiring Macedonia and Montenegro have agreed to set up a joint diplomatic and consular office in Paris, Skopje-based MIA news agency reported on Monday.

“We are making efforts to produce solutions that are cost-effective and send a political signal of cooperation expected from countries oriented toward Europe," Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki said at a joint news conference with his Montenegrin counterpart Igor Luksic in the Macedonian capital following the signing of the agreement.

“Paris is the first pioneer solution for our region. We are open to such cooperation with other regions and states,” he added.

Referring to bids by Macedonia and Montenegro to join NATO and the EU, Poposki said the two Balkan countries will try to use 2015 “in the best way possible” to move faster on the path to membership of the defence alliance and intensify cooperation in their EU accession process and the implementation of EU standards.

Luksic noted the importance of using the opportunities for taking part in joint infrastructure projects to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Montenegro is working towards the opening of an office of its national tourism organization in Skopje, Luksic said. According to him, both countries have interest in launching direct passenger flights between them.
