Bulgaria: UK's Former Ambassador Jonathan Allen Tops Novinite.com's Personality in the News Poll

Former British Ambassador to Bulgaria Jonathan Allen has turned out to be the most popular personality in Novinite's 2014 poll.

Apart from winning the contest in the Diplomacy category, Allen has garnered more votes than any other contender in any of the other five categories.

Though the latter achievement does not bring any particular award, it reflects his popularity among Novinite's readers and is worth noting.

An overwhelming winner in his category, Allen was one of the ambassadors who contributed most actively to the strengthening of Bulgaria's democracy and also used every occasion to show his fondness for our country.

Also leading by a landslide, Bulgaria's new old Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has topped the Politics category in both the poll on Novinite.com and the one on our Bulgarian-language website, Novinite.bg.

Borisov took over for a second time as Bulgaria's head of government, (an unprecedented event in the past two decades) has won by a landslide in the Personality in Politics category.

Novinite.com's winners in the other four of the six different categories (Politics, Business, Diplomacy, Sports, Culture, Charity) are as follows:

Serge Schmidt, General Manager Bulgaria and Greece at Italcementi Group, a First Class investor, is the Personality in the News in the Business category. Under the management of Mr Schmidt, Devnya Cement took the Investor of the Year award for 2014.

Renowned theater director Aleksandar Morfov has taken the first place in Culture. Morfov's plays usually stun the audience for their inspiring approach. Last year he quit the National Theater to protest against controversial appointments in Parliament.

Cosmin Moti, the Romanian star of PFC Ludogorets Razgrad, is the winner in the Sports category. Moti made the headlines in August after replacing the goalkeeper, saving two penalties and scoring a goal for his team in a match against Romania's Steaua Bucuresti.

In the Charity category, Ivanka Shalapatova, Executive Director of the For Our Children foundation who is a stanch advocate of the protection of children's rights and has brought a number of initiatives to a successful end, tops the list. Shalapatova is also the second most popular personality among all candidates, after Jonathan Allen.

As for Novinite.bg, winners in its Personality in the News poll include, once again, Boyko Borisov (Politics), Telerik founders Vasil Terziev and Svetozar Georgiev (Business), French Ambassador to Sofia Xavier Lapeyre de Cabanes (Diplomacy), Junior Eurovision winners Krisia, Hasan and Ibrahim (Culture), top tennis player Grigor Dimitrov (Sports) and Eureka Foundation's chairperson Kiril Boyanov (Charity).
