The parties constituting Bulgaria's ruling coalition are divided over the Finance Ministry's proposal for a new debt amounting to BGN 16 B, which is to be voted in Parliament later on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov held consultations with the four parties supporting the coalition government – GERB, RB, PF and ABV, private bTV station reports.
Following consultations with Goranov, the leader of the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) Georgi Parvanov announced that his party is not going to support the new loan.
The former Bulgarian President said that his party had received neither preliminary information on the proposed amount of the loan nor explanation on how it is going to be expended.
Parvanov expressed concern about the state of his party's partnership with GERB, reminding their partner's attempt to pass the controversial changes to pension insurance at the end of 2014.
MP Slavcho Atanasov from the Patriotic Front (PF) said that he had not been convinced by the motives of Goranov and his colleagues are to vote according to their own personal conscience.
Meanwhile, the oppositional Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and Ataka, which are against the new loan, protested outside the building of parliament.
At the same time, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov hinted at a possible resignation in case the new debt is not approved by the parliament.
