Highway between Bulgaria's Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo to Be Finished by 2020

Bulgaria's Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova has confirmed that the government is working on the construction of a major thoroughfare between the cities of Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse.
Pavlova told public broadcaster BNT that the new highway would help address traffic issues that have been arousing over the past years.
As many as 1000 heavy trucks a day use the current road between the two key destinations. Veliko Tarnovo, once capital of the second Bulgarian kingdom, is one of the biggest cities in the country's north-central region, while Ruse lies at the Danube, with Romania just across the river.
Incidents are not uncommon along the road - there have been 220 of them in the past twelve months, with nine killed and 91 injured.
First moves by the cabinet are expected later this year, and Pavlova hopes that tender procedures will have ended by 2016 to have the first sod the year after. In the minister's words, is things are going on schedule at that time Bulgaria might be able to apply for financing from the European Investment Bank.
The project is currently estimated at BGN 800 M.
