The Plovdiv Appellate Court upheld Thursday the order for the remand in custody of Todor Karaivanov, director of the Svilengrad customs office.
Karaivanov appealed the measure imposed by the Haskovo District Court before the Plovdiv Appellate Court, the court of second instance.
Todor Karaivanov was charged with taking a bribe of BGN 2773.
Karaivanov was arrested on January 28 after an operation of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) conducted on the basis of two consecutive tip-offs for bribery.
He was arrested at a time when he was receiving a bribe of EUR 600.
During the search of his office at the Svilengrad customs office, police found a bribe of BGN 600, which had been taken earlier, plus a sum of over EUR 12 000.
The search of his home yielded a sum of BGN 6000 and three sacks of customs documents, including originals and copies, according to reports of dnevnik.bg.
Karaivanov was director of the Svilengrad customs office twice.
He was head of the Svilengrad customs office in the period February 1, 2011 to August 9, 2013, during the first term in office of Customs Agency head Vanyo Tanov.
