Bulgaria’s Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) is to discuss short-term measures for the implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission in the sphere of judicial reform.

Despite the differences in the interpretation of the latest monitoring report of the EC on Bulgaria, most commentators agreed that the VSS had scored worst.

“Most of the criticism in the report concerns the work of the VSS. There are problems mentioned in the 2014 report, which have been reiterated word for word, so to say. If I should be straightforward, I have to admit that this means that there has been no progress at all, which is very bad,” Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva stated, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio.

VSS representative Sonya Naydenova, however, insisted that the conclusions of the EC about the lack of progress in the sphere of judicial reform did not concern VSS.
