"Why don't we put in effort and place a woman's bid for the presidential elections," Prime Minister Boyko Borisov suggested on Sunday.

Borisov made this comment in a hall packed with members of his party GERB's women's organization at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.

Delegates from across the country are attending, with European People's Party Women Chair Doris Pack (in the photo, C) being a special guest.

Earlier on Sunday, Deputy PM Rumyana Bachvarova, who was Borisov's Chief of Staff in his previous (2009-2013) cabinet, told the Bulgarian National Radio that the Prime Minister was himself a possible candidate for the 2016 presidential poll, but stated clearly that such a decision was not currently on the agenda.

"That Borisov is very suitable has been clear since the beginning of his political career. At the beginning of the cabinet['s term in November] however he declared that as of that moment there was not decision that he should run and that his ambition was to have a good term in office. So we have a year and a half until a decision has been taken," Bachvarova reminded.
