Operational program Human Resources Development 2014-2020 was officially launched Thursday in Plovdiv.

The resources of the operational program for the 2014-2020 period amount to over BGN 2 B, according to reports of the BGNES news agency.

The program emphasizes youth unemployment, which is a major EU priority in the sphere.

The first measure to be launched under Operational program Human Resources Development 2014-2020 in January targets youth unemployment.

Under the measure, 8000 people aged up to 29 will start 6-month paid internships, with the costs fully covered by the program.

Over the next 6 months, the social security payments of the 8000 youths will be covered under the program.

Over the next two years, a total of BGN 30 M will be spend on fighting youth unemployment in Bulgaria.

Lastingly unemployed and inactive people aged 34-50 are another priority in the new programming period of the Human Resources Development operational program.

The program also envisages measures for supporting people of preretirement age.

Hasan Ademov, Chair of the parliamentary committee on social policy, explained that many employers frowned upon hiring people who were near retirement age because of the compensations which had to be paid upon reaching retirement age.

He said that a proposal had been made to discuss covering part of this type of compensation under the Human Resources Development program.

Operational program Human Resources Development 2014-2020 envisages a sum of over BGN 658 M for fighting poverty and encouraging social inclusion.
