Apart from transporting and distributing gas, Bulgaria could become an exporter of energy resources, the country's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said after meeting EU officials on Monday.

Borisov held talks in Brussels with EU Commissioner Corina Cre?u, who is in charge of regional development, and the Commission' Vice President for Budget and Human Resources Kristalina Georgieva.

"We have highways, roads, railways and bridges, and now we are talking about gas highways," the PM told Cre?u.

The Romanian commissioner for her part told Borisov that Brussels was ready to provide full support to Sofia to safeguard political stability.

Cre?u is now invited to visit Bulgaria in May, when the Maritsa motorway is to be officially opened.

The two also discussed Bulgaria's proposal to build a gas up where South Stream's landfall was to be located.
