Two people were taken hostage in a jewellery shop in the city centre of Montpellier on Friday.

The incident took place shortly after the French security forces stormed simultaneously the two hostage sites in Paris and Dammartin-en-Goele, killing the suspected perpetrators of the Charlie Hebdo shooting.

It is still unclear whether the latest case in Montpellier is at all related to the other two hostage incidents that took place on Friday.
Media reports suggest that it could be an attempted robbery, which turned into a hostage crisis.

Four hostages were killed when security forces stormed the kosher supermarket in Paris on Friday.
