Bulgaria: Shootout in Paris Jewish Shop: Uncertanity Looms about Number of Dead Police set up a security perimeter near Porte de Vincennes in Eastern Paris after a gunman allegedly opened fire and took hostages in a Hyperkosher shop on the border of Paris and its suburb Sain-Mande, France, 09 January 2015. Police have denied their own previous reports that two people had been killed after a shootout in a Kosher supermarket in Paris, France.

An unknown number of people are being held hostage.

Police have now named Amedy Coulibaly and Hayat Boumeddiene as two suspects connected to the incident, with Le Monde claiming Boumeddiene is the former partner to Coulibaly, who is thought to have taken the hostages.

A composite image of two handout pictures released by French Police in Paris on 09 January 2015 shows Amedy Coulibaly (L) and Hayat Boumeddiene, suspects in connection with the shooting attack on 08 January 2015 in Montrouge, France.

Boumeddiene has subsequently been confirmed as the person involved in a Thursday shooting near Paris. Coulibaly for his part seems to be linked to the Charlie Hebdo suspects.

The new hostage situation is unfolding in the Porte de Vincennes district, in the 12th arrondissement of the French capital, after the gunman entered the kosher supermarket named Hyper Cacher Vincennes and opened fire.

The BBC cites reports saying there are several hostages. AFP sources put the number at five, adding there are at least two injured.

Some news services report that a gunmen insists he will not let go of the hostages until the two brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi, suspected of committing the Charlie Hebdo attack, are freed. Other media outlets say there are two attackers.

Police are still negotiating with the two brothers in Dammartin-en-Goele, where they have barricaded themselves in a printhouse.

Police are evacuating the area. Traffic in the district, including in the section of Paris's main ring road passing by the site, has been halted.

Authorities believe the attacker is the same who committed the shooting in Monrouge, Paris.

The hostage siege came shortly after police announced they had established the identity of a gunman who shot dead a police officer and injured a municipal official in the Parisian suburb of Monrouge on Thursday, media reports suggest.

Officials in Paris say "important elements" point to the fact that the shooting was related to the bloody attack on the Charlie Hebdo weekly which took 12 lives.
