Shots have been heard 45 km north-east of Paris as police are driving after a car presumably used by the gunmen who committed the attack on satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday.

For nearly two days thousands of police officers have been taking part in the manhunt following the twelve murders at Charlie Hebdo's office in Paris.

French media outlets report of a hostage having been taken at a warehouse in the town of Dammartin-en-Goele, according to the BBC. Other news services give varying numbers.

French authorities told Le Monde Cherif and Said Kouachi, the two brothers who allegedly committed the attack, had stolen another vehicle.

Witness accounts suggest after fleeing Paris on Wednesday, the brothers robbed a petrol station in the rural Ainse region some 80 km from the capital, possibly leaving the station on foot and later taking another car.
