Bulgaria: Bulgaria Warns of Snowfall, Rising River Levels

Bulgaria on Sunday issued a high water level warning for most rivers on its territory due to expected rain and snow.

Most affected will be the rivers in northern Bulgaria followed by those in the country’s eastern regions, as well the rivers in southwestern Bulgaria, according to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology.

With strong winds, snow and temperatures as low as 10 degrees Celsius below zero expected during the night to Monday, a Code Yellow alert has been issued for 19 of the country’s 28 regions, warning of potentially dangerous weather.

Gusts of northern and northwestern winds of up to 20-25 m/s are expected, increasing the likelihood of formation of snowdrifts mostly in northern Bulgaria.

A heavy snowfall and blizzards are expected in Bulgaria’s westernmost regions near the border with Serbia.
