Tsvetan Tsvetanov, former interior minister and deputy PM in the first government of Boyko Borisov (2009-2013) claimed the events from the beginning of 2013 that led to the fall of the government were provoked by “certain Russian interests”.
“We can presume that the events in the beginning of 2013 were provoked by certain Russian interests, connected to the South Stream gas pipeline,” Tsvetanov told the Nova TV breakfast show.
“There was a smearing campaign, which started in 2011,” he said. “It was started by the circles close to the Bulgarian Socialist Party and its (then) leader Sergei Stanishev. There was a plot and all those who had interest in realising those policies – Bulgarian and Russian companies – took part in it.”
