The Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is to meet the German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a meeting scheduled for December 15 in Germany.

This was announced by the administration of the German Chancellor, which also revealed that Borisov is to be welcomed with military honours.

It is expected that the two are to discuss their countries' relationship within the European Union and the cancellation of the South Stream pipeline that had been announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Borisov will be the first Prime Minister to make an official visit to Germany, following the reelection of Merkel to the leadership position of the Christian Democratic Union for the eighth time.

Their encounter is to occur days before the meeting of the European Council that is to take place on December 18.

It is anticipated that Borisov is to present to Merkel the idea for the gas hub that is to act as a substitute to South Stream, which had been discussed at the meeting of the Bulgarian Cabinet this Wednesday.

Then it became clear that the Bulgarian government is to propose to the European Union (EU) to finance the construction of a gas hub (centre) at the entrance of South Stream on Bulgarian territory.

From there Russian natural gas is to be distributed towards other European countries.

Borisov has entrusted Deputy Prime Minister for absorption of EU funds and economic policy Tomislav Donchev with the task of sending the proposal to the European Commission's Vice-President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic.

Bulgaria is expecting to receive a concrete yes-no answer to its proposal.

Borisov explained that Bulgaria will have no commitments to the pipeline until it reaches Bulgaria, once at Bulgarian borders the gas will be distributed by the European Commission and the common energy union.

According to experts, such gas hub can be constructed in 2-3 years and from Bulgaria gas will be distributed to the other European countries participating in the project – Serbia, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria and Italy, as well as Romania, Macedonia and even Ukraine.

It is expected that the Bulgarian delegation to Germany will comprise three Deputy Prime Ministers – Meglena Kuneva, Tomislav Donchev and Ivaylo Kalfin, chairman of the parliamentary Energy Committee Delian Dobrev, co-chairman of the Reformist Bloc Radan Kanev, and chairman of GERB's parliamentary group Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
