European Commission Plans Heavy Tariffs on Russian Grain Imports
The European Commission has unveiled plans for significant tariff hikes on grain imports from Russia and Belarus
In the period January - October 2014,Bulgaria’s exports to third countries decreased by 7.1% on the year, reaching BGN 13.5 B, according to the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
Bulgaria’s main trade partners were Turkey, Singapore, the Russian Federation, China, Macedonia, and Serbia, which accounted for 53.0% of the exports to non-EU countries.
In October 2014, exports to third countries decreased by 2.5% on the year, reaching BGN 1.5 B.
Bulgaria’s imports from third countries in the first ten months of 2014 decreased by 2.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2013 and amounted to BGN 16.5 B (at CIF prices).
The largest amounts of imports came from the Russian Federation, Turkey, China and Ukraine.
In October 2014,Bulgaria’s imports from third countries decreased by 2.7% on the year, reaching BGN 1.7 B.
Bulgaria’s imports from third countries in the first ten months of 2014 decreased by 2.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2013 and amounted to BGN 16.5 B (at CIF prices).

In the period January - October 2014,the value of all exported goods from Bulgaria amounted to BGN 35.9 B, down by 1.4% year-on-year.
In October 2014, total exports stood at BGN 4 B, up by 1.9% on the year.
The total value of all of the goods imported in Bulgariain the period January - October 2014 amounted to BGN 42.4 B (at CIF prices), up by 0.9 % from the corresponding period of 2013.
In October 2014,total imports increased by 4.4% on the year, reaching BGN 4.7 B.
In the period January - October 2014, the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative, at BGN 6 442.5 M, up by BGN 912.8 M from the corresponding period of 2013.
In the period January - October 2014, the total foreign trade balance at FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) was also negative and amounted to BGN 4 588.1 M.
In October 2014,the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative and amounted to BGN 697.8 M.
The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices was also negative and amounted toBGN 463.9 M.
The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries in the period January - October 2014 was negative and amounted to BGN 2 992.1 M.
The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) was also negative and amounted to BGN 2 210.0 M.
In October 2014,the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was negative and amounted to BGN 191.5 M.
In the first ten months of 2014, the largest annual increase in Bulgaria’s exports to third countries was registered in the segment ‘animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (24.6%), according to the 2 992.1 M.
The biggest decreases were reported in the segments of ‘crude materials, inedible (except fuels)(27.0%) and ‘mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (15.0%).
As regards imports from third countries, the largest increases were reported in the segments of ‘manufactured goods classified chiefly by material’ (15.3%) and ‘machinery and transport equipment’ (15.3%), while the biggest drop was registered in the segment of ‘mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (15.1%).
