Tomislav Donchev, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of EU Funds and Economic Policy, has informed that European Commission Vice-President Maro? ?ef?ovi? has been tasked with elucidating Russia’s unofficial stance on the South Stream project.

Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister declared that he expected the EC to come up with a clear and unambiguous stance on the South Stream gas pipeline project against the backdrop of Russia’s plans to quit the scheme.

Donchev met Tuesday with ?ef?ovi?, who is in charge of the EU Energy Union, and the energy ministers of Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Italy, Greece, and Romania, according to the press office of the Bulgarian government.

During Tuesday’s working meeting, the EU countries agreed on the necessity to build gas grid interconnections in southeastern Europe.

The participants in the meeting also devoted special attention to Bulgaria’s gas links with Greece, Romania, Turkey, and Serbia.

The EU Member States decided to set up a high-level working group to coordinate the efforts of the EU countries on the constriction and development of cross-border energy projects.
