The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office has asked the Smolyan District Court to remove from office the Mayor of the Nedelino Municipality, Stoyan Beshirov, and his deputy, Rumyana Karaivanova.

The two have been charged with malfeasance in office.

The motion is to be reviewed by the Smolyan District Court on December 10.

The anti-corruption unit of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office pressed charges of malfeasance in office against Stoyan Beshirov, Mayor of the southern Bulgarian municipality of Nedelino, on November 24.

Beshirov’s activities in the period January 2012 – October 24, 2014 are believed to have resulted in damage of BGN 902 465 to the municipal budget.

Beshirov faces charges of breaching the Public Procurement Act in four public procurement deals, thereby causing material and non-material damage to the Nedelino Municipality while securing benefits for third parties.
