The plummeting of oil prices has led to dramatic differences in its value at petrol stations around Bulgaria.

The cheapest petrol in Bulgaria can be found in Stara Zagora – around BGN 2.10 per litre, private bTV station announced.

On its way to Sofia, the prices increase – in Plovdiv it is BGN 2.19, while in the capital it is around BGN 2.30.

According to an independent website on the prices of petrol, in Pleven it reaches as high as BGN 2.60.

The variation is not limited to different cities, there is competition between neighbouring petrol stations, and even between stations of the same chain.

Two years ago, Hristo Iliev decided to create a website which monitors the prices of the main fuels in Bulgaria on a daily basis.

His motivation was that too few of the petrol station chains provided information on the prices, so he relied on the users of the website to supply more up-to-date information.

According to the website, the cheapest petrol can be found in Stara Zagora where it costs BGN 2.05 per litre.
