Ukraine's nuclear utility Energoatom has cast more light on the accident at the Zaporizhye nuclear plant which officials reported earlier on Wednesday.

State-owned Ukrainian utility Energoatom has cited a failure of the voltage transformer at the Auxiliary Power Unit as a reason behind the development, according to UNIAN news agency.

Energoatom has reiterated no radiation leak was registered at the plant on November 29, when the emergency actually occurred.

Authorities are now intending to make the unit operational again on Friday, December 5.

On Wednesday afternoon, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk reported of the accident saying it had forced the shutdown of an unspecified unit at the Zaporizhye NPP, but posed no danger.

Zaporizhye is Ukraine's largest nuclear power plant, and the fifth-largest in the world. Its six reactors provide about 43% of Ukraine's nuclear energy output.
