The students behind last year's occupation of Sofia University are organising a protest demanding the resignations of several controversial politicians, who were appointed to high-level positions.

The students, who have styled themselves as the “Early risers”, expressed their position in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and President of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva.

The students demand the resignations of the Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov, and the Chairperson of the Culture and Media Committee in Parliament Slavi Binev.

They also protest the appointment of Volen Siderov to the position of Deputy Chairperson of the parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee, and that of Delyan Peevski as a member of the Economic Policy and Tourism Committee.

The students also insist that 1 % of the Gross Domestic Product should be allocated to culture in the 2015 budget.

The “Early risers”are particularly disappointed by the neglect demonstrated by the government towards culture.

The students are also critical towards Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva and Radan Kanev, leaders of two of the parties constituting the Reformist Bloc for the betrayal of their principles.
