Bulgaria should consider introducing costs for new fighters into the state budget for 2016, Miho Mihov, presently head of Parliament's Defense Committee Miho Mihov has said.

"My insistence will be on a new type of fighter... neither second nor third hand," the Bulgarian National Radio quoted Mihov as saying on Friday.

He warned a BGN 955 M budget of the Defense Ministry is not enough to set anything aside for upgrading capabilities.

Bulgaria has not yet officially taken an official decision whether to buy second-hand aircraft or a newly-produced fighters.

In October Greek outlet Kathimerini reported Sofia and Athens were negotiating to carry out a deal under which Bulgaria was to receive used F-16 fighters.

Miho Mihov was the Bulgarian Army's Chief of Defense (a position formerly called Chief of the General Staff) between 1997 and 2002.
