The Minister of Regional Development Lilyana Pavlova said that Bulgaria plans on investing BGN 200 million in the construction of accommodation centres of family type during the next programme period 2014-2020.

Half of these funds or BGN 100 million will be invested in pilot projects for such centres and the accommodation of people of old age, reports Standart daily.

Pavlova announced this in the city of Varna, where she attended the opening of one of the seven accommodation centres for children and youths with disabilities.

The Minister reminded that during the outgoing 2007-2013 programme period, 128 centres and 33 sheltered housing were built with BGN 105 million, that had been provided under Operational Programme Regional Development.

Mayor of Varna Ivan Portnih pointed out that a total of BGN 4.5 million have been spent on the construction of the seven accommodation centres.

The opening of the first centre was also attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev.

The seven centres in Varna, which should be completed in the forthcoming weeks, are to initially accommodate 60 children and youths coming from care homes from all over the country, following an adaptation period of 3 months.

Before that a staff of 80 people will be employed, consisting of social workers, medics, pedagogues and educators.
