Bulgaria: Irina Bokova Is Likely Nominee For UN Head – French Media

The current UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova is among the nominees for next UN Secretary-General, writes the Bulgarian daily Standart, quoting the French Le Figaro.

According to the French publication, Bokova was “convenient” both for the US and Russia and had the support of France.

The French daily writes that it was time that the next UN Secretary-General be from Eastern Europe – the region which hasn't had a representative at the position since the organisation was established in 1945.

Le Figaro claims that among the other favourites for the position were Lithuania's president Dalia Grybauskait? and the former president of Slovenia Danilo Turk.
