The Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) is to launch a procedure for the election of a Chair of the Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS) on Thursday.
Nominations will be received during the VSS sittings on November 27 and December 4, according to the BGNES news agency.
The first possible date for the election of VKS Chair is January 29, 2015.
The previous attempt to elect a Chair of VKS failed after none of the two nominees, Tanya Raykovska and Pavlina Panova, summoned 17 votes in favor.
The presidential decree for the dismissal of the incumbent VKS Chair Lazar Gruev has already been published in the State Gazette, with Gruev said to be leaving the post as of November 21, 2014.
The VKS Chair is appointed and dismissed by the President at the proposal of VSS.
The VKS Chair is elected by VSS with more than 2/3 of the votes of the panel, or 17 votes, for a 7-year term in office.
Lazar Gruev was elected VKS Chair on November 9, 2007 and was appointed VKS Chair with a presidential decree issued later the same month.
