A 10th-minute goal by Jose Mari Romero earned Spain a 1-0 victory over Bulgaria in a friendly match late on Wednesday evening. The match between two national teams was lively up to halftime. Bulgaria battled back after the early setback and could have equalized in the 27th minute. Daniel Borimirov, Vladimir Manchev and Georgi Peev enjoyed opportunities for Bulgaria as the game grew more balanced. Spain took control of the game in the latter stages but failed to convert its superiority into another goal. The encounter was the teams' fifth. The first was in 1933 when Spain recorded a 13-0 victory. Their fourth came in the 1998 World Cup, ending 6-1 in Spain's favor.
