George Soros: 'Europe Is Facing a Challenge from Russia to Its Very Existence'
American investor and philanthropist George Soros warned that Russia's expansionism poses an existential threat to the EU and called for more material support for Ukraine.
In an article, entitled “Wake Up, Europe”, published in the New York Review of Books” argues that Vladimir Putin’s mix of authoritarianism and aggressive nationalism represents an alternative model to western liberal democracies
“Now Russia is presenting an alternative that poses a fundamental challenge to the values and principles on which the European Union was originally founded,” Soros writes. “It is based on the use of force that manifests itself in repression at home and aggression abroad, as opposed to the rule of law.”
“The fiscal rules that currently prevail in Europe have aroused a lot of popular resentment,” Soros writes. “Anti-Europe parties captured nearly 30 percent of the seats in the latest elections for the European Parliament but they had no realistic alternative to the EU to point to until recently. Now Russia is presenting an alternative that poses a fundamental challenge to the values and principles on which the European Union was originally founded. It is based on the use of force that manifests itself in repression at home and aggression abroad, as opposed to the rule of law. What is shocking is that Vladimir Putin’s Russia has proved to be in some ways superior to the European Union—more flexible and constantly springing surprises. That has given it a tactical advantage, at least in the near term. ”
Soros said the EU had become a dysfunctional relationship between creditor and debtor nations, resulting in widespread resentment.
“Putin has established good relations with those agitating against Europe,” he said. “The failure of Europe as an experiment in supranational government would make Russia a potent threat … The collapse of Ukraine would be a tremendous loss for NATO, the European Union and the United States. A victorious Russia would become much more influential within the EU and pose a potent threat to the Baltic states with large ethnic Russian populations.”

Europe faces no threat from Russia.
The big threat to Europe is US expansion eastwards and Europe is used as a tool in this expansion through the sanctions against Russia which are hurting Europe.
As Joe Biden said a few months ago the US forced the EU to implement the sanctions against Russia and without US pressure they might not have done so.
There will be no Russian tanks in Kiev, Warsaw, Prague well a few in the museums of course celebrating liberation from Germany.
I agree with the opinion of George Soros on the necessity of immediate assistance of the European Union, not only the moral support, but the real actions, namely: provision of financial assistance directly to Ukraine, imposing stricter sanctions on the Russian Federation and holding the international congress to gather the representatives of Ukraine, the Russian Federation and the European Union for peaceful, rapid and effective conflict settlement, since it is the subject of great concern for all the citizens of Ukraine, as well as for all the people of the world who are not indifferent to the existing problem. Ukraine is a young state which needs support of states having economic and military influence and able to stop an aggressive policy of Vladimir Putin.
I can only form an opinion that I do know the truth.
The Party I mention in my comment is remnant left over from the former Yugoslav communist Party, and Soros is supporting this Party to destabilize the country.
Just for your information,I grew up in the Eastern block,I know a bit about the difference who is who!
Mr.Soros can make billions of dollars, good for him,but his intentions in the country I comment are not very helpful given the multi ethnic mix.
George is usually right in his pronouncemets. All I know is tha my elderly neighbours in villages around where I live near Pernik say things were better in Soviet times, despite a certain amount of EU fiscal support. It's the same in Hungary - EU has suited some people, but plenty are very disappointed.
In his article “Wake up Europe” Soros to my opinion contradicts (again) his own targets of installing the NWO and destroying the EURO by saying : “The fiscal rules that currently prevail in Europe have aroused a lot of popular resentment,” on the one side trying to destroy the EURO, on the other side creating new fear for Russia as a potential threat to Europe and HIS NGO's ( USAID, the National Endowment for Democracy, International Republican Institute, National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and Freedom House are also directly involved) long-term strategies.
To my opinion we should once and for all stop with this “Putin and Russia” bashing and ban criminal Wall Street Gangsters like Soros from publishing their sickening opinions.

I disagree completely with :”George Soros supports the communists in Europe” as Soros is a very well-known anti-communist.
George Soros born August 12, 1930, as Schwartz Gy?rgy into a Jewish-Hungarian family, is a Hungarian-American business magnate, investor, and philanthropist. He is the chairman of Soros Fund Management. He is known as "The Man Who Broke the Bank of England" because of his short sale of US$10 billion worth of pounds, giving him a profit of $1 billion during the 1992 Black Wednesday UK currency crisis.
Soros is a well-known supporter of progressive-liberal political causes. He played a significant role in the peaceful transition from communism to capitalism in Hungary (1984–89) and provided one of Europe's largest higher education endowments to Central European University in Budapest. Soros is also the chairman of the Open Society Foundations.(Source Wikipedia)
Besides condemning and hating communism and being a convicted criminal ( Soros's insider trading with the french Bank Societe General in 1988, his insider trading conviction was upheld by the highest court in France on June 14, 2006, to which Soros appealed, but in October 2011, the court rejected his appeal in a 4–3 decision, saying that Soros had been aware of the risk of breaking insider trading law) Soros founded various NGO's (one amoung various is the Open Society Institute (OSI). ) Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Soros' funding has continued to play an important role in the former Soviet sphere. His funding of so-called “pro-democratic” programs in Georgia was considered by Russian and Western observers to be crucial to the success of the Rose Revolution. Soros carried out his will in Ukraine and Georgia by using these NGOs ... Last year Russia passed a special law prohibiting NGOs from taking money from foreigners. In 1997, Soros had to close his foundation in Belarus after it was fined $3 million by the government for "tax and currency violations".
Since a secret meeting on February 08th 2010 in Manhattan a small group of Hedge Fond Managers agreed upon betting on a declining EURO and make gigantic gains. Part-takers in this secret meeting were the Hedge Fond Giants Brigade Capital, SAC Capital Advisors and of course Soros Fund Management.
