Nearly 80% of Bulgarians approve of the democratic system, but are not satisfied with how it functions in the country.

The results are provided by a survey of the Balkan Assist association done in the spring of 2014 among 1032 Bulgarians, quoted by the Darik national radio.

The majority of those surveyed said they wanted direct involvement in the civic control over the decisions and actions of government and the local authorities in particular.

The survey, however, also showed there was a considerable “facebook effect” - many declared their willingness to participate, but in practice the turnout was low.
