Unsecured elements at construction sites are among the most common violations found during an extraordinary construction inspection conducted throughout Bulgaria in August and September.

The insufficient safety poses risk of falling accidents involving both people and heavy objects that could injure workers or passers-by, the General Labor Inspectorate Executive Agency said in a press release.

Builders often work on exterior scaffolding and floor slabs without proper safeguarding, the Labor Inspectorate notes.

Due to the frequent major accidents in the construction sector, the Executive Agency has launched an information and inspection campaign in the period August 12 to September 30, 2014.

A total of 908 inspections of 821 construction companies were carried out. Some 4977 violations were established, 3611 of which are related to the provision of healthy and safe working conditions.
