Bulgaria’s ABV party led by former President Georgi Parvanov has said it won’t take part in a government coalition with centre-right GERB party.
The differences between ABV and GERB are so big that the answer is negative, Parvanov told BNR radio broadcaster on Friday.
“What’s more, I don’t see any attempt of the other side to convince us, no attempt to overcome those differences,” Parvanov said.
GERB led by former Prime Minister Boiko Borisov won most votes in October 5 early parliamentary elections but remained short of outright majority.
It will have 84 of the 240 seats in the new parliament which is making it to seek partners for forming a government coalition among the other seven parties that passed the 4% entry threshold.
The Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV), a splinter group from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), will have 11 seats. The party is calling for resumption of construction work on two large-scale energy projects backed by Russia: Belene nuclear power plant and the South Stream gas pipeline.
Parvanov also said that even though ABV would not support a GERB-led government, it would back urgent measures which will have to be taken to help carry Bulgaria through the winter months.
