Russia Is Upset. We're Finally Doing It Right
This week's harsh comments of Russian state officials criticising Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev, calling the Defence Minister “one Shalamanov” and accusing PM Bliznashki of “betrayal”, leave the impression that Russian officials have lost their nerve.
And it is not for lack of occasions. First it was the suspension of the South Stream pipeline, then it was the “Outlook 2020” strategic defence document. The cherry on the pie was the crushing defeat of the “Russophile” parties at the early elections on October 5.
If the majority of previous comments of Moscow officials, mostly on the newest “decoration” of the controversial Soviet army monument in downtown Sofia, can be easily dismissed as harmless drivel, this week's salvoes border on arrogant patronising.
But it comes as no surprise that Moscow acts as the playground bully who orders people around and calls all the shots, especially in Bulgaria. - Many actions of previous Bulgarian governments and the rhetoric of some politicians and party leaders in the country suggest that it is rightfully considered a “Russian trojan horse” and “Russia's fifth column”.
The reply of Bulgaria's caretaker Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov that “Bulgaria is a sovereign state that takes independent decisions on its security. They are not subject to comment from high officials of other countries.” came as a nice slap on the wrist.
It is worth occasionally reminding both ourselves and everyone else that now Bulgaria is a member of the EU and NATO and has chosen a different path, in spite of the attempts of Russia to rope us back into its sphere of influence and the dregs of Russian propaganda sloshing around in the internet forums and social media, trying to suggest otherwise.
The EU may not be the ideal union, but the Eurasian Union is hardly better. Especially if it is led by an arrogant playground bully.

The interesting review, Peter ;-) ...."oligarchs [steal] money...from ordinary Russians", right, and there are also
nepotism, bribery, corruption...but "Russia has failed as a State"?, is wishful thinking so sweet? ;-)
"Democracy": look at, say, "freedom" of Western media, which is under the total control: the "correct" news only(just as it was in the USSR), while in Russia now: do watch/listen to/read Russian media...merely the outrage of freedom ;-)
"Russia can not be a model"+"Bulgaria made a right choice"=Time will tell ;-)
"NATO is a right choice"---kidding? NATO, the threat №1 for the World, as a "right choice"!?
"Russia is indeed trying to rope Bulgaria"---to rope the already roped by the sweet couple NATO/EU?, it's a trick!
"Russia does not care if its "friends" develop or not"---YES, if to replace.....to replace "Russia" by "USA" ;-)
"European democracy will outlast Putins dictatorship"---strongly said, I must remark ;-)...well, to be FULLY dependent on the USA' will, to "bark" on those Russians at Big Boss' bidding and to call this shameful dependence "European democracy"...What a strange World we live in, said Alice...;-)
Russia has a rich culture, but as a state it has failed. Failed in democracy, failed in establishing a "rechtsstaat", failed in reforming its economy, failed in taking care of its sick, poor, elderly and destitute people, failed in establishing good relations with its neighbors. Russia has been very successful in filling the pockets of FSB oligarchs with money stolen from ordinary Russians.
For these reasons, Russia can not be a model for any European country. Bulgaria made a right choicen in choosing the EU and the NATO. Russia is indeed trying to rope Bulgaria and various other countries back into its sphere of influence. This is what Putin himself is telling, when he says that the collapse of the Soviet Union was "the biggest tragedy of 20th century".
Putins Russia does not care if its "friends" develop or not. In fact, Putins Russia prefers keeping its foreign "partner countries" as weak as possible, so they can not escape the gulag. Nobody with even a tiny bit of sanity can claim Russia would be a better partner and model for Bulgaria than Germany, France, the Netherlands, the U.K. etc. European democracy will outlast Putins dictatorship.
If even your loyal ass lickers in Bulgaria are turning against you it may be time to look in the mirror and realize that you are being led by a megalomaniac dwarf who is plundering the country along with his inner circle.
Putin Ltd and partners then manipulate the hysterical and ultranationalist Russian masses by brainwashing them through total control of the media while they sack the state coffers and the peasants in Russia go hungrier and hungrier by the day. Like watching Goebbels all over again.
Wake up Russians and rescue your country from the economic and geopolitical abyss before its too late.
"the attempts of Russia to rope us back into its sphere of influence and the dregs of Russian propaganda" ---
could the author to illustrate his "revelations" by the facts? or the happy staying under the utmost friendly and reliable, sure, overseas ass delivers from this painful necessity?...;-)......
