Central Election Commission Prepared for 2-in-1 Elections in Bulgaria
As Bulgaria gears up for early parliamentary elections (6th in the last 3 years), the Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced its readiness for a unique scenario
Bulgaria’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) is to announce the official results of the early parliamentary elections by October 9 at the latest.
By Thursday, the CEC is to publish the number of votes received by the different parties and coalitions, as well as the number of MP seats.
The names of the MPs are to become clear by October 12 at the latest, according to provisions of the Election Code, as cited by dnevnik.bg.
The deadline for the publication of the names of MPs has been extended to 7 days due to the preferential voting option.
If an MP candidate has won an MP seat in two or more electoral districts, they are to specify the list under which they are accepting the MP seat in a declaration to the CEC within 24 hours after learning the results and no later than October 12.
The legality of the early elections may be challenged before the Constitutional Court (KS).
The appeal can be lodged by MP candidates, parties, coalitions, and representatives of the initiative committee backing an independent candidate.
The claim can be submitted to Bulgaria’s Constitutional Court via the President, the Council of Ministers, the Chief Prosecutor and the chairs of supreme courts within 7 days of the publication of the results by the CEC.
The Constitutional Court is to come up with a pronouncement on the complaint in two months’ time.
If the Constitutional Court declares the early parliamentary elections illegal, a new round of elections is to be held no later than two months after the publication of the decision of the Court.
