Bulgaria’s Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) has failed to elect a Chair of the Military Appellate Court.

There were two candidates for the post, including Svilen Aleksandrov, Chair of the Sofia Military Court, and Dimitar Fikiin, judge at the Military Appellate Court.

None of the two candidates received the necessary 13 votes to win the post.

Aleksandrov was backed by 7 VSS members, with 6 votes against, and 8 abstentions, while Fikiin was backed by 12 VSS members, with 1 vote against and 8 abstentions.

Seven days ago, VSS failed to elect a Chair of the Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS) after none of the two candidates was backed by the necessary 17 votes to win the post.

According to reports of dnevnik.bg, the vacancy at the Military Appellate Court opened up after the previous Chair, Petko Petkov, was removed from office after being indicted in a case for embezzlement of EU funds alongside the former Chair of the Sofia Appellate Court, Veselin Pengezov.
